Peterhead to host a bountiful seafood festival this September.

Updated: Sep 4, 2018

Peterhead town centre is to host an exciting new seafood festival on Saturday 29 September, supported by Aberdeenshire Council and Peterhead Port Authority.

We are excited to be organising the Peterhead Seafood Festival to showcase the stunning seafood landed at our fish market and available in our local shops and eateries. The festival, the first of its kind since 2010 will celebrate the heritage and cuisine we have on our coastal doorstep and will see local businesses showcasing their produce in a community market in the heart of the town centre.

The market will consist of delicious hot and cold food demonstrations by well-known chefs and local food producers tantalising your senses, and there will be the opportunity for visitors to taste/buy and sample the incredible produce of our local surroundings and learn about Peterhead’s rich fishing heritage.

Meanwhile, local chefs from cafes, hotels and restaurants will be paying their seafood tribute throughout the day with exciting fish dishes for visitors to enjoy!

Rediscover Peterhead Chairman John Pascoe said: ‘Peterhead, as the largest fishing port in Europe, lands at its harbour the very best seafood and the festival is a tremendous opportunity for people across the North-east, and beyond, to see what is on offer and to enjoy the great hospitality in our town.

The seafood festival is one of a number of new events that are being planned for the coming year, to both showcase what is on offer locally and to generate visitors to the town centre. This corner of Buchan has maybe not shouted about its undoubted quality food and drink offering in the past but we aim to change that with this series of events’.

As well as providing music, and fun ‘fish-themed’ activities for children and families to enjoy throughout the day, it is hoped that the added footfall in the town will help drive business in Peterhead.

The festival will take place in Chapel Street and Marischal Street from 12 noon until 5 pm and visitors can take advantage of our many bars, restaurants, and music venues throughout the evening, all embracing the theme ‘Fishing Through the Ages.’

We hope that this event will grow year-on-year and be an annual celebration for everyone to look forward to each year. Local business owners and food producers are currently being invited to secure a market stall and be a part of this exciting event.
