Press release: Peterhead Seafood Festival

Peterhead Seafood Festival launches in Peterhead town centre this September.

On Saturday 29, Rediscover Peterhead and Peterhead town centre welcomes you to join them at the first-of-its-kind seafood festival. Throughout the day there will be live street music, live cooking demos, street food, kid’s entertainment, pop-ups and masterclasses, as well as seafood themed menus inside restaurants, bars and shops.

Peterhead Seafood Festival is being organised by the town’s business improvement district, Rediscover Peterhead and will showcase the stunning seafood landed at Peterhead’s fish market and available in local shops and eateries. The festival will celebrate the heritage and will see local businesses showcasing their produce in a community market in the heart of the town centre.

Due to an overwhelming response from local businesses asking for pitches, the market has now expanded to include Queen Street, as well as Marischal and Chapel Street.

Some of the highlights will include:

A pop-up fish and chip café hosted by Peterhead’s award-winning fish and chip shop, Zanre’s - offering their famous jumbo battered scampi. Steven Bruce and Prime Seafoods will be there offering cooking demonstrations, and fresh fish will be available to taste and buy. The Palace Hotel will be holding their own pelagic fish BBQ, and Skerry Rock will be there with great seafood on offer – to name but a few!

The Foot Clinic will have a stall and will be able to offer expert advice on their services, and Justrite will have a stall offering shoes and clothing among several other local craft stalls. Running alongside the market will be a miniature train for children (and adults!) to enjoy. There will be a fun fish-themed activity centre for children throughout the day, which will take place in the Apex Church.

The market will take place on Queen Street, Chapel Street and Marischal Street from 12 noon until 5 pm. These streets will be closed from 9 am until 9 pm, and Rediscover Peterhead kindly ask businesses on those streets to be aware of these timings and to be mindful of any deliveries planned within those times.

There will be added footfall in the town that day, and all businesses can take advantage of this by having their own fish-themed shop displays or offering specialised fish/seafood dishes. Rediscover Peterhead also encourages bars and restaurants to think about how they can attract visitors to remain in the town in the evening and experience the very bright night-life Peterhead has to offer, including live music venues such as Brew Toon, The Caley Bar and the Palace Hotel.

Iain Sutherland, Rediscover Peterhead’s manager said,

‘We hope that this event will grow year-on-year and be an annual celebration for everyone to look forward to and wish to thank Aberdeenshire Council and Peterhead Port Authority for their continued support in this exciting event.’

If any local businesses have any questions about the event or would like to discuss ways they can be involved, please don’t hesitate to contact by email or phone at the details below. or call 07941 899459
