An introduction to the artist

"Hi! I'm Craig Fisher (@plaguefisher on instagram) and i'm an artist based in Aberdeen. I moved to the North East, from Edinburgh when was18 to go to art school and haven't looked back. I'd like to think i've always been creative but my influences are drawn from riding BMX bikes, skate culture, cartoons and low brow, weird art. My "art career" took off when I ended up doing in house graphic design, illustration and mural work for Brewdog but now self employed under my business FISHER PAINT CO, I have the freedom to work with a broader range of clients and work on developing my own personal style."

The theme behind the public art project

Rediscover Peterhead set an overarching theme for the Public Art project. Which requests that all artwork must acknowledge Peterhead, whilst highlighting an environmental topic.

How the artists artwork acknowledges Peterhead

The octopunk characters provide subtle nods to the people of Peterhead, through little features within the artwork. Such as the anchor on the sailing hat.

How the artists artwork highlights an environmental topic

Craigs 'octopunk' characters highlight reducing single-use plastic in a playful, fun way!

Artists thoughts on the public art project, and why they wanted to take part.

"Everyone at Rediscover Peterhead have been great to deal with! As the first of hopefully many murals, they had their work cut out getting permission in place but there was forward momentum with the project from our initial contact. Peterhead town centre needs rejuvenation and I'm proud to be a small part of that!"
"Should also shout out to all of the locals who stopped for a chat, and local legend John for keeping a watchful eye through my painting process!!"
